The homilies were revoked by Mary, but reinstituted by Elizabeth. In the second book was issued, though only published with the full twenty-one homilies in Bishop John Jewel wrote all but two of these; they are more practical and liturgical in content than the first book. The two books were united into one volume in The Book of Homilies contains the authorized sermons of the Church of England. Originally published in two volumes during the reigns of Edward VI and Elizabeth I, the homilies were intended to provide for the Church a new model of simplified topical preaching, as well as to perpetuate the theology of the English Reformation/5(1).

The Book of Homilies (or sermons) is actually two books, the first one of twelve homilies published in during the reign of Edward VI, and the second 20 homilies in during the reign of Elizabeth I, with a 21st added in The sermons are a mixture of exhortations to sound Anglican doctrine and theology, and to good moral conduct.
